SIGNAL FLOW !
MIDI-Interface
The idea was to create a sensual and organic experience with an electronic interface using Ableton Live.
I started the journey by designing an interface for electronic music which consisted of a 2 buttons , 3 potentiometers and Arduino nano to send midi messages to Ableton.
Design of. the interface :
Resources : Arduino nano , MIDI USB , 2 buttons and 3 potentiometers
Having some prior know how about Ableton , i created a composition with the drum kit. Before I get into the details of the composition I want to talk about the signal flows in Ableton .
The process starts by thinking of a track . Track is the home of the instrument and only 1 instrument is allowed per track .
Clips are 1 bar instrument instructions that are midi messages which produce the desired sound.Midi consists of 3 elements that is note number , velocity and duration. Range of note and velocity is 0-127 which is the hearing range of humans.
A visual representation of my explanation on the signal flow in Ableton :
Composition and its elements :
My inspiration for this composition is from the year that’s gone by. The ups n down , good n bad days but in the end we sail through.

The arrangement was done keeping in mind the the user experience and performance aspect of the project.
I will like to keep working on this project , specially on the design of the interface and for that I’m taking Intro to fab and Speculative design in the fall semester.
I will like to thank David for being so patient and guiding throughout the journey and Mai who was my collaborator in Mixd.
